Pay boost for thousands across East Worthing and Shoreham

From today, 380,000 people in the South East will receive a pay rise, including thousands of workers in East Worthing and Shoreham.

The Labour Government is delivering for working people, having increased the National Living Wage and National Minimum Wage to £12.21 for those 21 and over, and £10 for those aged 18-20.

This is going to make a significant difference to many people, as the average eligible full-time worker will be up to £1,400 a year better off. For those aged 18-20, the increase could be worth up to £2,500 after tax, as the Government works to narrow the gap between age bands.

Pensioners in East Worthing and Shoreham will also get a cash boost of up to £470 from Sunday 6th April. This is thanks to the Government’s commitment to the state pension triple lock, which means the basic and new state pension will rise by 4.1%.

The Government has also made other support available by delivering the £150 Warm Home Discount for low-income households and extending the Household Support Fund with £742m of funding, to ensure local authorities can support pensioners and families if they are struggling with the cost of living.

Visit West Sussex County Council’s website to check if you are eligible for support via the Household Support Fund.

For those still struggling after years of economic chaos under the Tories, these pay rises are a big step forward in our mission to provide economic security for working people and deliver the decade of national renewal this country needs.
