Celebrating St George’s Day

St George’s Day is a brilliant chance to celebrate our shared values and everyone who makes England a great place to live.

I was delighted to welcome Wendy Peters from Keep Lancing Lovely to 10 Downing Street last week for a reception hosted by the Prime Minister to mark the feast day of England’s patron saint.

The reception was filled with volunteers who do wonderful work in their community, so it was a privilege to be able to recognise the dedicated work of Wendy and the rest of the Keep Lancing Lovely team. They do a fantastic job of tidying up, promoting recycling, and teaching children about the importance of looking after our local environment.

Last week also brought sad news, with the death and the funeral of His Holiness Pope Francis. My thoughts are with Catholics across the world.

The week just gone also marked the Government’s launch of 750 free breakfast clubs across the country. I’m very pleased that Holmbush Primary Academy in Shoreham is one of the first schools to offer one, which will save parents up to £450 a year and create better life chances for our children.

In the constituency, I had the pleasure of meeting the team from Worthing Mencap and Ferring Country Centre who do important work locally.

On Saturday, I got to enjoy the sunshine as I delivered a leaflet in Broadwater to update residents on the work of both the Government and Worthing Borough Council. Hopefully, this lovely weather is here to stay!
