Lifeline for leaseholders and new cancer centre
Leaseholders in Adur and Worthing have been forced to pay for substandard service by managing agents for far too long. To protect millions of leaseholders, this Government is capping ground rents at £250, banning the sale of new leasehold properties and introducing commonhold.
This is welcome news for local leaseholders, as many of you reached out to me last year with your concerns, which I took to ministers and the leadership of managing agent companies.
Our community boasts so many fantastic local pubs that have faced significant pressures in recent years, so I am delighted that the Government is backing British pubs with a 15% cut to business rates, followed by a two-year real-terms freeze.
I am also pleased that the Government has allocated £250 million for a new Cancer Centre in Sussex, based at the Royal Sussex County Hospital, which will ensure faster access to care for patients.
In Westminster, I met with fellow Sussex coastal MPs to discuss our concerns about items that have washed up on our shores recently due to lost shipping containers.
I also attended a Parliamentary reception for wonderful Sussex food and drink businesses and later attended BPI’s GrowMusic reception to meet with Creds, an innovative music licensing business based in Shoreham.
Back in the constituency, I truly enjoyed attending the official launch of the incredible Southwick Reef project at Shoreham Port, which will support marine biodiversity and allow residents to see the marine life on our shore.
I then met with parents and teachers concerned about road safety around Swiss Gardens Primary School, followed by discussions with local SENDCOs at Sir Robert Woodard Academy, and later met with the managers of Lyons Farm Sainsbury’s for a behind-the-scenes tour of one of our local supermarkets.
