My maiden speech

Published

I was delighted to make my maiden speech today in a general debate on remembrance and the contribution of veterans in the House of Commons.

Maiden speeches follow a certain format – talking about your constituency, a nice nod to your predecessor, a little about your motivations and a reference to the debate topic.

In my speech, I highlighted the constituency’s efforts in the run-up to D-Day, talked about why I care about politics and what I’ve spent my career campaigning on, the issues facing my constituents, highlighted successful local industry and business, and mentioned some community champions volunteering their time across the constituency. These included Keep Lancing Lovely, the Shoreham and Adur Community Foodbank and Southwick Rangers FC.

I hope you find it interesting and feel I did us proud – so much to say, and a strict time limit!
