£53 million to help families heat their homes
Many households are understandably worried about the Middle East conflict and its impact on the cost of living. Those using oil to heat their homes have been hit by an enormous price shock and the Government has announced over £50m in support for low-income families heating their homes in this way.
This comes in addition to keeping the energy price cap until June, reducing energy bills by £117 in April, and freezing fuel duty to protect drivers’ pockets.
In the House of Commons, I raised concerns about the number of dangerous potholes in our patch that West Sussex County Council have refused to fill, and the number of roads in need of resurfacing, despite the County Council being given £27m by the Government to do just that.
I additionally asked the Business Secretary about how local businesses can benefit from our reset in relations with our European neighbours, and voted to expand access to free school meals to lift 100,000 children out of poverty.
In the constituency, I met with Southern Water regarding sewage discharges at Worthing Beach House due to a misconnection from a block of flats, and made clear the improvements I expect to see in our local water quality. I also visited Bramber Primary School for an assembly on road safety!
Over the weekend, it was great to get out with our local councillors at Shoreham Farmers Market, and door-knock in East Worthing, Lancing and Fishersgate to chat with residents about our area and pick up casework. It was lovely to also join residents at Worthing Masjid as they broke their Ramadan fast at sunset.
Last week, I also sent out my first-ever monthly email newsletter. If you would like a copy, please email: [email protected]
