A lagoon saved and a Budget delivered
Last week, the Chancellor delivered her Budget, making fair choices to address the public’s priorities.
This Labour Government is cutting energy bills by £150, scrapping the two-child limit to lift 450,000 children out of poverty, and freezing rail fares, prescription charges and fuel duty to help with the cost of living.
Our economy is turning a corner and surpassing forecasts with growth this year upgraded to 1.5% and interest rates and mortgage rates cut five times since the election.
A lot done, and a lot more to do.
In the House of Commons, I raised the excessive rent hikes and no-fault evictions that many private renters in Adur and Worthing face with the Housing Secretary. I was pleased to hear that, from May 2026, our Renters’ Rights Act will address these issues. I also raised residents’ concerns about long waits for driving tests, and I am glad that the Government is banning bots from booking tests to get people on the roads more quickly.
In the constituency, I am delighted that we have secured agreement from the Environment Agency to replace the damaged mitigation pipe at Lancing’s Widewater Lagoon! This work will take place early next year and protect the lagoon for years to come – a real victory for our community campaign.
As part of UK Parliament Week, I visited seven schools and colleges across Adur and Worthing to answer questions from hundreds of pupils about my work as our MP and our democracy.
I had a magical time at Buckingham Park Primary’s Christmas lights display and the Lancing Village Christmas Fayre and Trail, which made for a festive end to a busy week!
