Keeping children safe online

After a brief recess, we have returned to Parliament!

It has been lovely to spend more time back in the constituency, knocking on doors in Broadwater and Shoreham with our fantastic local councillors to catch up with residents and pick up any casework.

Alongside Keep Lancing Lovely and West Sussex County Council’s Youth Cabinet, it was great to get out in the sunshine to pick up litter on Lancing Beach Green and keep our shore clean. Thank you to Keep Lancing Lovely for all the vital work they do for our community and to protect local wildlife.

I attended the opening of the new Acute Medical Unit (AMU) at the Royal Sussex County Hospital, marking a significant step in modernising and expanding its Emergency Department. I know this will be welcome news to residents, as the unit will ease pressures on A&E and help thousands of local patients access treatment faster.

We promised that 2026 would be the year our economy starts turning a corner, so I am really pleased that inflation has now fallen to 3%, meaning prices are rising more slowly and beginning to ease pressure on household budgets.

I was also glad to see the Government announce it is taking action to keep children safe online, launching a three-month consultation that will consider measures including restricting infinite scrolling, banning social media for under-16s, and raising the digital age of consent from 13. This is a conversation many parents have had with me and I would encourage you to make your views known on this important topic.
