Cheaper bus fares and reduced business rates for pubs
In his first week as Prime Minister, Andy Burnham has announced some fantastic measures to build a fairer country and get Britain believing in itself again.
Ahead of setting out a new 10-year plan for Britain, the Prime Minister has pledged to build a new economy, putting life’s essentials back under public control to make them affordable again.
Firstly, we are capping bus fares at £2 from January 2027 to provide cheap and accessible transport for everyone. For all of August this year, bus travel will be free for 5-15 year olds – so make use of it!
Further to this, the Prime Minister announced a 20% reduction in business rates for thousands of pubs, clubs and music venues, providing support for our local favourites in Adur and Worthing.
We will also cut tax on electricity bills, with £45 taken off every household’s electricity bill, on top of the £150 reduction on bills at the last Budget.
As Parliament is now in recess, I have enjoyed spending all my time in the constituency. Last week, I held my advice surgery for residents in Broadwater, as well as spending an evening door knocking there to check in on constituents, alongside councillors for the ward.
It was wonderful to make the most of the sunshine by joining the Friends of New Parade in Worthing for their community gardening session, looking after the flower beds and green space in front of the houses there. Since they began their planting project, they’ve documented a 485% increase in biodiversity and the number of species present there – rising from 20 to 118, with a new one discovered at this session!
