Delivering for young people and for Worthing
Parliament returned last week, and it was great to hear our Prime Minister deliver his first statement and face his first PMQs in the House of Commons.
The Prime Minister raised important issues impacting our country, including his determination to continue to reform our water industry, which for too long hasn’t worked for the people it serves.
He also highlighted our £2.5 billion investment in skills training and a job guarantee scheme for young people. By reforming the education system through the balance of academic and technical education, we can offer a path to success and meaning for every young person.
I was also glad to hear that the number of people entering the UK by illegally crossing the Channel has fallen by 43% this year. Our work to disrupt the dangerous people smuggling gangs putting people’s lives at risk is bearing fruit.
Back in the constituency, I met with local farmers at Applesham Farm to discuss the impact that climate change and drought are having on our food security. I then visited a newly opened independent business on Lancing’s South Street, the Pamper Studio, which will host creative and fun parties in a beautiful setting!
I also attended a beach clean in Lancing with the Marine Conservation Society and Keep Lancing Lovely, and knocked doors in Shoreham to speak with residents.
On Saturday, I was delighted to attend the opening of Montague Gardens, alongside Dr Beccy Cooper MP and Council Leader Cllr Caroline Baxter. The Gardens host a vibrant Worthing sign, a children’s playground, and new seating and planting – increasing the biodiversity of our fantastic town centre.
It was wonderful seeing so many people enjoying this fantastic new space. You must check it out – it looks incredible and will increase footfall to shops in our town.
