Ropetackle funding boost and new MRI scanner for our hospital
Last week saw fantastic news for local arts lovers.
The Labour Government announced £371,000 of funding for the refurbishment of the Ropetackle Arts Centre in Shoreham, which will be spent improving the box office, air conditioning, acoustics and auditorium.
Arts and culture are at the heart of our seaside community, so I am delighted that Ropetackle will continue to be able to punch above its weight with this funding.
The good news for our area didn’t stop there, with the Government also announcing that a new MRI scanner is coming to the Community Diagnostic Centre at Southlands Hospital. This will benefit all patients across Adur and Worthing, meaning we will be able to get tests and scans more quickly and at a time that works for us.
Health Secretary Wes Streeting also announced an independent review into maternity services at University Hospitals Sussex NHS Trust to be chaired by senior midwife Donna Ockenden. I welcome this inquiry and pay tribute to my brave constituents who have shown tenacity in the face of unimaginable loss, who I have been supporting for some time. I hope that this review will result in the safest possible healthcare environment so that no family has to go through preventable tragedy.
Later in the week, I was glad to welcome Environment Secretary Emma Reynolds to Shoreham to outline the progress that is being made on finishing Shoreham’s flood wall in time for the winter, and to show her the flood defence work taking place in Worthing.
Over the weekend, it was brilliant to try my hand at bowls at Lancing Bowls Club’s open day, before heading out to speak with residents across Adur and Worthing. I also had the pleasure of a wonderful meal at Calcutta 16 whose fantastic curries and hospitality are well worth checking out.
