Tom Rutland and Ropetackle's Martin Allen at No 10

Ropetackle goes to 10 Downing Street

To celebrate St George’s Day, I had the pleasure of taking Martin Allen, Chairman of Shoreham’s Ropetackle Arts Centre, to a reception at 10 Downing Street honouring people volunteering in their local communities.

It was a fantastic opportunity to celebrate the £371,000 of Government grant funding for renovating the Ropetackle announced last week.

In Parliament, I was very disappointed to see the Assisted Dying Bill fall, due to Members of the House of Lords effectively filibustering to prevent its passage.

I do not believe this is the end of the matter. Public support for dignity in dying and choice at the end of life is overwhelming, and I hope that we make progress on this in this Parliament. Thank you to the many constituents who contacted me about the Bill.

To tackle the issues of smuggling gangs and reduce dangerous small boat crossings, the Government have struck a new UK-France deal which will boost enforcement to stop crossings.

In the constituency, I was pleased to welcome Liz Kendall, the Secretary of State for Science, Innovation and Technology, to Shoreham Port. We enjoyed a fantastic tour led by their CEO, Tom Willis, where we saw the Port’s impressive science and tech-based facilities and learned about how the new marine reef is enhancing biodiversity in Adur.

Throughout the week, it has been great to speak with residents in Southwick, Shoreham, East Worthing, Broadwater, and Lancing and pick up casework at their doors in the beautiful sunshine.

Lastly, I got the chance to pop into The Fizzy Rascal, a newly opened independent sweet shop in Shoreham – make sure to stop by!
