New leadership and summer begins
Following the resignation of the Prime Minister, the Labour Party is currently choosing a new Leader who – as we are in Government – will become Prime Minister.
Last week, I nominated Andy Burnham after meeting with him to discuss his plans for the country, including the South East.
I am impressed by his vision and his empathetic, human and pluralistic approach to politics, as well as his plans for good growth in every postcode, including coastal communities like ours.
In the House of Commons chamber, I highlighted the delays constituents are facing in receiving their civil service pensions from Capita, the impact of waste crime on our economy, and the Government’s crackdown on foreign political donations.
Also in Parliament, I attended a Cure CJD’s event to meet with a constituent whose family had been sadly affected by the terrible disease.
I also appeared on ITV’s Last Word to discuss Nigel Farage’s resignation, which I argued was an attempt to distract from the investigation into his undeclared £5m gift.
In the constituency, I joined Shoreham Beach Primary’s bike ride and their assembly, met with Sussex MSK Health at Southlands Hospital, and toured Hand Brew Co in Broadwater.
It was good to also meet with members of Shoreham & Southwick’s u3a, attend the Sea2Shore Festival in East Worthing alongside the Worthing Lido Community Group, and attend Lancing’s annual blessing of the boats.
The week ended on a fun note at Buckingham Park Primary’s summer fair, where I got gunged in green slime to raise money for the PTA, and it was great to watch England beat Norway at Shoreham’s Crown and Anchor!
