More mental health support coming to the Sussex coast
It might be the summer recess when Parliament does not sit, but the Government is continuing to announce measures to help people here in East Worthing and Shoreham.
A new Mental Health Emergency Department will open at Worthing Hospital or St Richard’s Hospital, in addition to that already coming to Brighton’s Royal Sussex County Hospital. An additional new NHS mental health centre will also be opening in Sussex, to bring crucial support directly into local neighbourhoods.
The 16-17 Saver railcard is also being expanded, valid for a full year from purchase rather than expiring when card holders turn 18, which prevented over 70,000 young people from accessing the 50% discount last year alone. This will save them £175 a year in getting to education or training, in time for the new academic year!
The warm weather continues here on the South Coast, which has made getting out and about a joy.
It was wonderful to join Cllr Robina Baine at Shoreham RNLI Lifeboat Station to meet some of the volunteer team and see the lifeboat launch for a training exercise. Please do consider volunteering to join the life-saving team if you live nearby.
I also enjoyed speaking with local residents in Broadwater at a street stall outside the Co-op with local councillors Cathy Glynn-Davies and Dawn Smith, as well as the Leader of Worthing Council, Cllr Caroline Baxter. There was a lot of interest and support for the council’s new Pride in Worthing initiative aimed at making the town centre cleaner, greener and better maintained.
Resident engagement didn’t stop there, with lots of constituent conversations at the Shoreham Farmers’ Market with the Leader of Adur Council, Cllr Jeremy Gardner, and checking in on locals at their doors in Widewater and Gaisford!
