Bustling businesses and seated gymnastics
Parliament rose for party conference recess this week, which means I’ve been out and about in the constituency!
Before recess began, I asked a question to the Education Secretary about the package of cost-saving measures that have come into force for families this school year, and was pleased to hear that 4,100 children across East Worthing and Shoreham are now eligible for free school meals.
Down on the coast, it was great to catch up with local businesses including Connect Media, Boxx Storage and Mindworks Escape Rooms at the Worthing and Adur Chamber of Commerce’s annual Better Business Show – as well as playing some table tennis there with Dr Beccy Cooper MP at Worthing Table Tennis Club’s stall.
I also joined Love To Move in Shoreham Baptist Church for their weekly age and dementia friendly, chair-based gymnastics session. It was lovely to meet local residents and volunteers for a gentle workout set to musical classics and see the community that Cherry and Anna have built. It’s well worth popping along to if you might benefit from it! I also met residents at their doors around Southlands Hospital in Shoreham, seeing if they needed anything from me.
Finally, I popped into a newly opened business on Shoreham High Street called Name tbc, which is serving coffee, bagels and brunch – and soon to be serving your favourite tipple later in the day.
