Summer fairs and a new Youth Hub for Adur
This week, Keir Starmer resigned as Leader of the Labour Party and announced that a new Leader of the Labour Party and Prime Minister will be in place before Parliament returns in September.
I am thankful to Keir for transforming the Labour Party to make it capable of winning an election and therefore able to change people’s lives for the better – his legacy is one to be proud of. Our next leader and Prime Minister must continue to deliver the change the country voted for.
I was pleased to see the incredible result in the Makerfield by-election – congratulations to Andy Burnham on a stunning win. It was a pleasure to welcome Andy to Parliament.
In Westminster, I spoke about losing the late, great Tessa Jowell to brain cancer and the impact the dreadful disease is having on many, including my constituents and their families – and I echoed their calls for better, more effective treatments.
I am delighted that a new Youth Hub has been confirmed for Adur, one of 180 new hubs that will open in the coming years – providing employment, education and training support, and ensuring every young person has the chance to earn or learn.
Back in the constituency, I met with Sussex Games, before visiting Lancing Beach Care Home and heading to my regular advice surgery for residents.
Over the weekend, it was great to get out in the sunshine at Homefield Primary and Swiss Gardens Primary’s summer fairs, Southwick Artisan Market, and Worthing Festival.
It was fantastic to see a rhythmic gymnastics performance by i-Star Academy, and join residents in supported accommodation for a celebration at Beach Green after a successful campaign to keep their home on Shoreham Beach.
