Great British Summer Savings begin
Last week, the Government launched its Great British Summer Savings scheme to address cost-of-living concerns so that families can enjoy the summer, and businesses can benefit from increased footfall.
This includes free bus travel for children in August and a cut to VAT on children’s meals and tickets for cinemas, amusement parks, museums, and much more – allowing families to create summer memories at a more affordable price.
I am glad that the Government has published draft legislation to create new criminal offences for carrying out abusive conversion practices, which create serious harm for the LGBT+ community.
In Parliament, it was good to attend the Coeliac UK drop-in highlighting the cost of gluten-free products and disparities in prescription provision across the country, and the UK Parliament Teacher Ambassador Programme reception to welcome a teacher participating in the scheme from Lancing’s Sir Robert Woodard Academy.
Back in the constituency, it was great to see the blue plaque unveiled in honour of Alderman James Gurney Denton in Worthing and mark 100 years of our fantastic Pavilion Theatre.
It was good to also attend Shoreham Port’s annual Sustainability Week and later meet with Age UK West Sussex to learn about their vital work supporting older people in our area. I then met with residents in a local housing development to discuss their concerns about their freeholder, an issue affecting many developments in the constituency.
Over the weekend, I joined the Royal British Legion in Southwick Square for Armed Forces and Emergency Services Day, and checked in on residents at their doorsteps in Hillside ward in Southwick – picking up casework to help constituents with.
