£4 million for Adur and Worthing flood defences

After campaigning in Parliament, I am delighted that Adur and Worthing will receive nearly £4 million for our flood defences, building long-term resilience for our community and helping to protect homes and businesses in Shoreham, Lancing and Worthing.

This funding is part of a £1.4bn investment in flood defences by the Labour Government for 2026/27 and is part of the largest flood defence investment programme in England’s history.

To tackle youth unemployment, the Government also announced our Youth Guarantee last week, which provides £2.5 billion of investment to provide employers with hiring incentives to take on young people, offering them more opportunities to earn or learn.

Back in the constituency, road safety near schools has been a top concern for many parents, teachers and school staff members. Alongside Councillor Dawn Smith and Councillor Cathy Glynn-Davies, I attended a road safety meeting with Downsbrook Primary School and Whytemead Primary School in Broadwater to discuss continued efforts to secure a much-needed safer road crossing from West Sussex County Council.

Alongside Councillor Jeremy Gardner, I also visited St Nicolas & St Mary CE Primary School in Shoreham to discuss road safety on Eastern Avenue with their headteacher and parents, and then I was delighted to launch their British values week for pupils.

Over the weekend, it was good to attend the opening of Adur & Worthing Food Partnership’s Community Hub in Beach House Park and also enjoy a wonderful performance by the Boundstone Chorus and Worthing Choral Society.

It was also great to get out in the sun and talk with residents in Shoreham, East Worthing, Broadwater, Lancing, and Southwick at their doors and get their views on local and national issues.
