The biggest shake-up of the water industry in a generation

Last week, the Labour Government launched its Water White Paper, introducing needed reforms to the water sector which will increase transparency and accountability. This includes a new water regulator and surprise inspections for failing companies, to fix long-standing failures for residents.

As part of our new National Cancer Plan, we are ending the cancer care postcode lottery by boosting cancer specialists in coastal areas and rolling out new standards and technology, so that patients are diagnosed and treated faster.

We also launched our Warm Homes Plan, which will deliver £15 billion of public investment to upgrade five million homes, cut energy bills and lift one million families out of fuel poverty by 2030.

Also in Westminster, I enjoyed hosting Marks & Spencer for a breakfast roundtable focused on improving nutrition in the food we buy from supermarkets and changing consumer tastes and habits.

Back in the constituency, I was pleased to meet residents at a coffee morning in Southwick with Carers Support West Sussex, where I heard carers’ personal stories and how the charity provides vital support for them.

I then met with Electric Storm Youth again in Lancing, before heading over to Worthing to see the progress made on renewing our town’s coastal defences – including the timber groynes you see on the beach.

Over the weekend, I had a great time out in Broadwater, alongside our local Labour councillors, where we checked in on residents and picked up casework.

To wrap up the week, I settled in for the fantastic Traitors finale – where I was glad to see the truly worthy traitors win! It was a timely reminder of how fantastic BBC TV content can bring the nation together.
