Supporting first time buyers and fixing social care
Our Labour Government is committed to restoring hope and optimism. At this year’s Labour Party Conference, we announced a series of measures designed to fix the significant challenges our country faces.
For too long, home ownership has been an unattainable goal for many people. To help tackle this, we announced the Your First Home Scheme to make it easier for people in Adur and Worthing to get on the property ladder.
Under the scheme, first-time buyers will be able to buy a new-build home with a deposit of just 2.5%, whilst the Government will provide a 20% equity loan to further help, plus an initial interest-free period to ensure housing costs are more affordable.
Social care was another key issue discussed at conference, as the Prime Minister proposed free social care services to everyone in England. I welcome his commitment to fixing social care, as the current care system places significant financial pressure on individuals, families and the NHS.
The Prime Minister also announced that from April, women and their partners will be entitled to two weeks off work after any pregnancy loss, giving them some necessary time and space to grieve.
Finally, we are taking action to bring our high streets back to life by investing £210 million to regenerate our local communities and take over neglected pubs, clubs and shops. I am delighted that this investment will put power and resources back into the hands of local people, and I will advocate for Adur and Worthing to receive our fair share of this funding.
