Last week, our community came together to commemorate all those who gave their lives for our freedom.

It was very moving to attend the Remembrance Sunday services in Southwick and Lancing.

There’s lots of news from Westminster this week.

The Prime Minister has secured a £8 billion defence deal with Turkey for the provision of 20 UK Typhoon fighter jets, driving economic growth and creating 20,000 skilled jobs in the UK.

Last week, the Prime Minister visited Peacehaven mosque following the awful arson attack. I welcome the Government’s additional £10 million in security funding for mosques and faith centres to support and protect our Muslim communities.

Ensuring every young person in Adur and Worthing develops the skills they need to thrive is a priority for me. Last week, I asked the Prime Minister what this Labour Government is doing to achieve this goal, and I was pleased to hear more about our new ambition for two-thirds of young people to enter an apprenticeship, further education, or university.

After a busy week in the constituency, Parliament has now returned from party conference recess and the Government is working hard to deliver its Plan for Change.

I am delighted at the news of a huge investment into East Worthing and Shoreham to help more people into good jobs.

Almost 4,000 sick or disabled people in West Sussex and Brighton will receive employment support, thanks to £15.6 million in funding from Labour’s Connect to Work programme.

Parents, carers, school leaders and teachers across West Sussex are invited to a special event on the impact of smartphones on children’s wellbeing, learning and safeguarding.

Last week saw me head up to Liverpool for Labour Party Conference, where a number of important announcements were made – including an NHS online hospital service to make it easier for people to access appointments remotely, as well as funding for a library in every primary school.

Our Labour government is determined to make local government more efficient and responsive to residents’ needs. Here in Sussex we’re electing a Mayor next May, and our district, borough and county councils will merge – reducing waste, ending duplication, and making sure the same council that does the roads also does the bins.
