Worthing Herald column – 18th May 26

Last week, I set out my view that the Prime Minister should set a timetable for his departure and for a new leader to be chosen to lead the Labour Party and the country.  

It was clear to me from the many conversations I have had with voters that the PM’s loss of authority with parliamentary colleagues and voters will impede the Government’s ability to deliver the change that people voted for at the general election.

To celebrate St George’s Day, I had the pleasure of taking Martin Allen, Chairman of Shoreham’s Ropetackle Arts Centre, to a reception at 10 Downing Street honouring people volunteering in their local communities.

It was a fantastic opportunity to celebrate the £371,000 of Government grant funding for renovating the Ropetackle announced last week.

The Labour Government announced £371,000 of funding for the refurbishment of the Ropetackle Arts Centre in Shoreham, which will be spent improving the box office, air conditioning, acoustics and auditorium.

I am pleased to welcome a £371,000 funding boost for Ropetackle Arts Centre in Shoreham as part of the Labour Government’s latest investment in cultural venues across the country.

This funding, delivered through the £1.5 billion Arts Everywhere Fund, will help refurbish the venue and secure its future, with improvements to the box office, air conditioning, acoustics and auditorium.
