Following the resignation of the Prime Minister, the Labour Party is currently choosing a new Leader who – as we are in Government – will become Prime Minister.

Last week marked two years since you placed your trust in me to represent us in Parliament at the 2024 General Election.

Since then, I have been working hard alongside our Labour Government and local Labour councils to serve our community.

Last week, the Government launched its Great British Summer Savings scheme to address cost-of-living concerns so that families can enjoy the summer, and businesses can benefit from increased footfall.

This week, Keir Starmer resigned as Leader of the Labour Party and announced that a new Leader of the Labour Party and Prime Minister will be in place before Parliament returns in September.  

The Government has announced a comprehensive ban on social media access for under-16-year-olds to protect children from online harms and excessive screen time, responding to the recent consultation in which nine in ten parents supported a ban.

Thanks to Labour’s new breakfast clubs, we have now provided 10 million free breakfasts to primary school children.  

No child deserves to go to school hungry, so I am really pleased that Shoreham has a free breakfast club at Holmbush Primary Academy, meaning children can start the school day right and helping families can save up to £450 a year.

Parliament has now returned after the Whitsun recess.  

Over the weekend, Southern Rail returned to public ownership. 

Govia Thameslink (GTR), which operates Southern, Thameslink, Great Northern and the Gatwick Express, is responsible for 1 in 6 passenger rail journeys in Britain, carrying hundreds of millions of passengers each year.

Before the House of Commons rose for the Whitsun recess, the King’s Speech was delivered to Parliament, setting out the Government’s agenda for the forthcoming parliamentary session. 

Last week, I set out my view that the Prime Minister should set a timetable for his departure and for a new leader to be chosen to lead the Labour Party and the country.  

It was clear to me from the many conversations I have had with voters that the PM’s loss of authority with parliamentary colleagues and voters will impede the Government’s ability to deliver the change that people voted for at the general election.
